Now that I've got the shiny new blogapodnewslettercast up and running, I should probably say a bit more about its title. I've always been a person with many layers, and this website is much the same. It reflects a bunch of things going on in my life at the moment (Jan 2020). I'd like to peel back those layers in future updates (episodes?) of this publication, but for now, let me talk a bit about one specific project that's most in focus right now.

A couple years back I started a podcast about being a rideshare driver. Today I am barely driving any more as pay rates continue to drop and drivers are protesting in the streets. In the archive, you'll see audio episodes belonging to that project. Now, I want to try a new podcast with a quirky format. I want to interview random guests, some perhaps notable and/or "famous", while others are just ordinary joes and josephines. Here's the twist: they will be ostensibly anonymous. I won't mention their names or what they do for a living. Instead, I'll do my best hetero-Asian male version of NPR's Terry Gross and try to draw out something interesting about them without giving away who they are, although the fun might be in guessing based on either their voice, or subtle hints dropped along the way. And I plan to record these furtive audio interviews at an undisclosed location. Sounds cloak and daggery, right? That's what I'm aiming for.

When you hear the term "undisclosed location", what's the first thing you think of? For me, it sounds like something possibly extra-legal or shadowy might be involved. I usually associate this with stories or articles about covert missions involving CIA agents and foreign operatives who rendezvous to exchange stolen contraband; or wireless surveillance operations approved by a secret tribunal; or unrequited lovers longing for momentary respite at a pay-by-the-hour motel; or an investigative journalism piece built on deeply embedded sources who are not "authorized to speak publicly" on matters of record.

I have no intimate knowledge of people who fit the above profiles, but that's the psychographic territory which I'll hope to create with this new audio project. Might work. Might not. I'll let you know.

I started this on the premise that it was an easy way to collate all the various essays, short-form musings, and audio experiments that I’ve been creating since roughly 2016 into one convenient place. When I’m dead and gone, my kids can simply reference this site to find out why their Dad was so grumpy in the latter parts of the decade. As we launch into the 20’s (and yes, I’m aware that some pedants think the new decade doesn’t officially begin until 2021, but whatever), I want to affirm my enjoyment of the cheeky hot take; the trenchant observation of the apocalypse in real-time; the eternal suffrage of being a perpetually unemployed yet lovable stay-at-home dad; and most importantly, a better use of my time than the infinite jest made real that is Facebook.

I hope you stick around for the ride. Now, where are my meds?
