Summer Update
Note: welcome new subscribers!
Happy sweltering Chicago summer! Hopefully you’re enjoying all the glory of a Chicago summer - street festivals, Taste of Chicago, fireworks on the lakefront, maybe a road trip to points unknown. Or like my brother, a family trip to Olympia National Park in Washington State.
Wherever summer is taking you (could be to a hidden spot with great air conditioning...) my goal here is to help you discover unique, off-beat, and lesser known cultural opportunities in the Windy City. So far, I’ve produced a variety show open mic, hosted a comedian, kicked off a DIY Film Challenge, attended a secret monthlong hackerfest, sold all my treasured CDs at a neighborhood garage sale, and narrowly avoided a freak tornado in Minnesota. Next week brings an outdoor music festival in Wisconsin, and a visit to the newly opened Obama Presidential Center. Whew! That’s a lot.
A number of the above events are also being produced out of Fabrik, a social coworking space in the River North neighborhood. Through membership there, I’ve been able to meet a lot of other interesting folks producing various events, from AI vibe coding, to bespoke syrups, dream journaling, self-improvement workshops, book and running clubs, and performance art.
I am also trying something new. Launching a paid membership tier on my Luma page for future updates for early adopters. You will get first notice about upcoming shows on my radar, events around town, and other insider stuff that’s floating around my mind. Plus, you’ll get to be my guest at membership only spots around town. All for a one-time price of $6.99. That will be the least expensive price ever for my closest supporters.
Note: I have no current plans to launch paid memberships here on Substack.
That’s it for now - hope to see you IRL before the leaves turn brown!
